Flow Mo's 2017 Summer Movie Anticipation

Summertime means summer movies. Whether it is sequels like Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Cars 3, War of the Planet of the Apes, or the 700th Transformers movie, movies expanding on already established universes like Wonder Woman and Spiderman: Homecoming, or original movies, It Comes at Night, The House, or Dunkirk, when summer comes around, studios begin to push some of the most anticipated blockbuster movies of the year. From when these movies are announced to when they’re released, what’s coming out and who’s excited about what is a common conversation here at Flow Motion. Some of us are excited about the new superhero movies, while others are looking forward to a new reboot of an old favorite, and others just wait till December for the next Star Wars. Either way, blockbuster movies can be fun, and if anything else, they offer the tangible vision of a question many of us ask, what can you make with a nearly unlimited budget? Spending millions of dollars to create the next huge apocalypse movie, or millions of dollars on historical sets and costumes for a period drama? Blockbuster movies push both the boundaries of our imaginations, and the boundaries of our patience. How long can the industry keep pushing the same plot but with new powers? Well as long as they keep making money of course. With over 50 new movies coming out between June and August, there’s so many to choose from, and for so many different reasons.

Whatever your opinions on the summer blockbuster industry/business, it seems there is something for everyone out there in this summer film season. Here’s what we are most excited about for Summer 2017:

Josh (Director / Producer / Writer)

"Notable movies that I’ve seen so far this summer that I’d highly recommend are definitely Wonder Woman, Baby Driver, and LIFE. The ones that I haven’t seen yet, but excited to see are Spiderman: Homecoming, A Ghost Story (an A24 film, probably my most liked and watched distribution studio, also the ones behind Ex-Machina, Under the Skin, and Moonlight), and War for the Planet of the Apes. Also Valerian from Luc Besson, and The Dark Tower, an adaptation of the Stephen King novel."

Kyle (Director / Writer / Project Manager)

"I’ve already seen Baby Driver (and can’t stop thinking about it), Wonder Woman, and Spiderman: Homecoming (so excited to see him finally swing alongside his Avengers buddies, my inner child is very happy about this). What I can’t wait to see is Dunkirk, War for the Planet of the Apes, and the two new A24 indie films It Comes at Night and A Ghost Story."

Katelyn (Producer / Coordinator)

"I’m only slightly ashamed to say I have not been to the theater in a while, but despite that I am still really excited to see Wonder Woman. And these aren’t technically summer movies, but they are being shown during the summer! The Music Box Theatre is showing both Hook and 2001: A Space Odyssey in 70mm which is really cool. Also, a movie based on the book Feed is being adapted into a movie, which I’m interested in because I love Troian Bellisario."
